The Art of Cold Email: 5 Tips to Ensure Open Rates of Up To 60%

Mastering the art and science of cold emailing is crucial for businesses aiming to expand their outreach effectively. A compelling cold email can open doors to new opportunities, partnerships, and client relationships like nothing else can.  Here are five key strategies that emerged from sending hundreds of thousands of cold emails. They’ve been key in increasing open and response rates.

1. Build Custom Email Lists:

Do not buy your email list. Purchased lists mostly lack accuracy and they don’t usually align with your business or service. Build your own list by targeting and specifying your unique market using tools such as Snov.io, Apollo, or Hunter. This method gives you the quality that is tailor fit for your business and offerings.

Prioritizing your email list will make sure that your message is sent to the right audience. And because this process is time consuming,  instead of doing it yourself, collaborate with freelancers or lead generation experts.

2. Craft Approachable Subject Lines:

The subject line is your first impression. To make sure it grabs the attention of your audience, use sentence-case and friendly language. This makes emails feel more personal and it increases the likelihood of them being opened. Use conversational tones as if you’re writing to a friend. Make it direct and personal. Avoid sounding sales-y and uninterested. Show your genuine interest by expressing your message in a friendly manner. Make it sound natural and inviting. This method has proven to increase engagement rates.

Use this checklist for each of your subject line:

Is it a sentence? If you were to receive it, would you open it or move it to trash? Does it sound friendly and conversational? Does it say something about the email body? Are you asking a question?-Are you using Dynamic Variables?

3. Utilize the Power of P.S.:

A postscript at the end of your email grabs attention. Whether it's the first or last thing read, a well-crafted P.S. can significantly impact your message's effectiveness.

Here are tips in crafting effective P.S. lines:

A one liner P.S. makes it short and snappy.Make sure it is parallel with the email body.Include statistics and interesting trivia.Make sure it’s always written in Bold.

4.  Simplify Your Call-to-Action (CTA):

Asking for a sale on your first cold email will likely be snubbed and can turn off your prospect as the recipient has never heard of you before. And because the non-negotiable goal of any cold email campaign is to get a response, make it a no-brainer to respond to your emails.

Write a straightforward CTA. This method encourages more responses by reducing commitment anxiety.

Use these simple and low-commitment CTAs:

“you can reply to this email to know more”

“get a case study here”

“interested? Book a free consultation here”

If you have a five-email sequence, the last email can ask for a referral to the right person to contact. This will also give you insight to improve the quality of your leads.

5. Implement Email Sequences:

Persistence through follow-up emails is key to unlocking potential opportunities. Not hearing back after your initial outreach doesn't necessarily mean a lack of interest. Three to six follow-ups spaced within months will enhance engagement. You can do this by leveraging automation tools and customizing the sequences based on your message.  This can significantly boost lead generation, proving essential for any business scale and sector, and

sharing successes can further enrich the sales community.

These strategies, honed through extensive trial and error, have proven to not only improve cold email campaign performance but also to establish a consistent flow of leads and opportunities. For businesses of any size, integrating these tactics into your outreach efforts can result in a significant uptick in engagement and a stronger connection with potential clients and partners.
